What is Report + Support?
Report and Support is an online platform where UEA students and staff can make a report if they have experienced or witnessed incidents of harassment, abuse or assault either anonymously or by submitting details to receive further support and advice. The webpage also provides information on internal and external support, policies and campaigns.
Who are the Report + Support Team?
The team who manages the student reports and reports about students are the Student Life in Student Services (STS).
The staff reports are administered by members of the HR Business Partnering Team.
Can students and staff only report things that happened on campus or at university events?
No. Student and staff members can report any incident of harassment, abuse or assault that has happened to them regardless of location.
I have made a report with personal details - what happens next?
If your report is relating to a student, the report will be assigned to someone in the Student Life team and they will contact the student by email. They may offer the student an appointment to talk about what happened.
Staff reports are administered by members of the HR Business Partnering Team.
I have made an anonymous report – what happens next?
Reporting anonymously means that the University will not be able to identify you or anyone that you are reporting. This means that we will not be able to contact you to offer any support or initiate an investigation into the concerns you have raised.
We understand that not everyone wants to report giving their personal details and anonymous reporting provides you with the opportunity to tell the University what has happened without taking it further. Although we cannot act on your report, the University uses the information from anonymous reports to better understand what is happening in our community and to inform our proactive, preventative and support work.
Can I make a report on behalf of someone else?
Yes, you can. However we would want to contact the person you are reporting for to give them the support they need, so it's important to consider how they would feel about you making the report on their behalf.
Who can see my report?
Only the Report and Support Team can see the report in the first instance. The team will only assign your report to another team or staff member if they specifically need to be involved in supporting you.
How confidential is my report?
The UEA takes confidentiality as a highest priority, and we want to ensure people reporting through the system stay in control of the reporting process as far as possible. If you provide details identifying people involved, and the nature of your report raises urgent concerns about risk to you or others, we may judge that action is required even if you are not requesting action be taken at this point. Wherever possible, we will discuss this with you first.
I’m not sure about submitting a report – can I talk to someone and get help before making a decision?
There is nothing to worry about by making a report. Submitting a report means an adviser can contact you and offer an appointment. In the appointment you will have access to advice, support and options of what you can do next. You can take as much time as needed to think about what you'd like to do, and don't need to decide during the appointment.
Please feel confident in making a report as a way to purely access support, and not initiate the University Discipline process.

What happens if I report to the police?
Depending on what has happened, one option can be reporting to the police. If you do decide to report to the police and they take the report forward as a criminal investigation, the University cannot continue with any internal investigations until the police investigation, and any resulting court cases, have been closed.
An adviser will be able to explain more and will be able to support you through any decision you make. Any appropriate risk assessments and support mechanisms to manage your safety will still be carried out.
